In 1985, a caribou shed was discovered 100 feet behind the Main Guest House of Caribou Bay Retreat. It is believed to be 12,500 years BP (before the present) of age. The horn is one of the best preserved sheds discovered in Wisconsin and sits prominently in a glass case in the retreat’s Great Room. Caribou Bay is located on the terminal moraine of the Ice Age Trail.
While you are here, explore the Wedde Creek and Mecan River segments of the Ice Age Trail. Rain or shine, relax in the retreat’s inviting and picturesque hot tub and four season’s room. Roast marsh mellows over the bridge and up at the cabin, around a roaring campfire. Enjoy water sports on your own semi-private lake. Party till the sun goes down on a huge multi-level deck overlooking the bay, or just bask in the retreat’s solitude. Regardless of your choice of activities, Caribou Bay is where memories are made.
